Title: Endurance Pdf Shackleton's Incredible Voyage

"One of the most gripping, suspenseful, intense stories anyone will ever read."―Chicago Tribune"Riveting."―The New York Times"Without a doubt this painstakingly written authentic adventure story will rank as one of the classic tales of the heroic age of exploration."―Christian Science Monitor"Grit in the face of seemingly insurmountable adversity."―Wall Street Journal"[An] incomparable telling of Shackleton's travails."―Mary Roach, New York Times Book Review Alfred Lansing (1921-1975) was a native of Chicago. After serving more than five years in the Navy, he enrolled at Northwestern University, where he studied journalism. Until 1949 he edited a weekly newspaper in Illinois, later joined the United Press, and eventually became a freelance writer.

The harrowing tale of British explorer Ernest Shackleton's 1914 attempt to reach the South Pole, one of the greatest adventure stories of the modern age.

In August 1914, polar explorer Ernest Shackleton boarded the Endurance and set sail for Antarctica, where he planned to cross the last uncharted continent on foot. In January 1915, after battling its way through a thousand miles of pack ice and only a day's sail short of its destination, the Endurance became locked in an island of ice. Thus began the legendary ordeal of Shackleton and his crew of twenty-seven men.

For ten months the ice-moored Endurance drifted northwest before it was finally crushed between two ice floes. With no options left, Shackleton and a skeleton crew attempted a near-impossible journey over 850 miles of the South Atlantic's heaviest seas to the closest outpost of civilization. Their survival, and the survival of the men they left behind, depended on their small lifeboat successfully finding the island of South Georgia--a tiny dot of land in a vast and hostile ocean.

In Endurance, the definitive account of Ernest Shackleton's fateful trip, Alfred Lansing brilliantly narrates the harrowing and miraculous voyage that has defined heroism for the modern age.

Wrong Format I do not want to say anything that might diminish this incredible story or the heroism of all the men involved. But, this should have been a short story and not a full blown novel. There is not one moment of levity in the entire book. It is simply tension at a high level for page after page after page. There is only so much snow, ice, freezing water, freezing temperatures, waves, ice pack, ice pressure, wind, hopeless, etc., etc., etc. that a person can take. After a while it all becomes somewhat of a blur and is boring, especially when you know how the story ends. I only wanted to finish the book and move on to something more interesting. If that kind of book is what you are looking for, then you will love this book. It really is an incredible story and it is a story well told.I recommend this book to add to the collection of those ... What a page turner. Lansing is a master for the description of those explorers hardships, desire to follow Shacketon' orders. I kept saying to myself that there are few humans today that are as tough as those men. I recommend this book to add to the collection of those books that give us the knowledge of what it takes to conquer a goal.Have you ever had a horrible nightmare from which you thought you wouldn’t be awakened ... Have you ever had a horrible nightmare from which you thought you wouldn’t be awakened from? A nightmare so bad that you felt deep consternation even after waking up from it. Quite glad did you become when realization came to you that it was just a dream - now you were in your warm bed, and you are safe. This book is the story of Ernest Shackleton and his 27 men. The difference between your nightmare and theirs is that there was no awakening for them- theirs was real. They lost their ship during Antarctic expedition, named "Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition."Before the expedition, Shackleton named the ship "Endurance" from his family motto, "Fortitudine vincimus" (By endurance we conquer). Very interesting is it to know the crew survived between the wreckage of their ship, Endurance, and their rescue only though tough endurance, so shows their story from this book. The author of this book, Alfred Lansing, was a journalist all his life. He has done a great job at compiling official sail records, each crew's journal, background world’s history, personal interviews, ship's manufacture features, and all the information relevant to Endurance and expedition. Through this book will you gain many new perspectives in respect to this expedition, if you already knew their story. If you didn’t know about them, while reading this book, you will feel as though you are their stowaway crew member, having survived along with them on their unexpected 17-month-long journey and be awed at how so did theyAt times, I slowed down and carefully read with wrinkles between my eyes with much concern for the crew members' well-being. I was worried something horrific might come upon the crew when they run out of food, water; some fell off the boat; many had frostbite; and one had gangrene on his toes from severe frostbite. At other times, I burst out laughing loudly at funny jokes that they made each other, and positive mindset, despite their grim ordeal.Shackleton's leadership could be a matter of interest to you. He showed countless courageous leadership decisions and sacrifices for his crew throughout the journey. Had it not been for his innate leadership, I am certain the rest of 27 men would not have seen their family ever again. On voyage, they would toast by saying "For our wives and children. May they never meet." Then did they not have a slightest inkling on how Shackleton would lead them from the grasp of death in the coming months.

Title: Verity Pdf
Sexy. Twisted. Consuming.

From the #1 New York Times bestselling and award winning author Colleen Hoover comes "standalone romantic thriller that is tragic, creepy, and brilliant!-Mel Reader Reviews

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night their family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Due to graphic scenes and mature content, this book is recommended for readers 18+.

What an insane ride! So many words to describe this book. Raw, gritty, disturbing, suspenseful, intense, and of course holy-crap-what-did-I-just-read.This book is not like the usual Colleen Hoover book. If you’re looking for hearts and butterflies, you’ve come to the wrong place. While Verity may make your stomach twist with butterflies, it’s definitely not the sweet kind but more like the kind you have to choke down and hold inside.A mind blowing adrenaline rush I can't remember the last time I read a book this fast. I started Verity as soon as it arrived on my kindle, and now, at two in the morning, I feel more awake than I did when I started it.In this moment, I can still feel the adrenaline pumping through my veins. It's an uneasy yet empowering feeling that I'm not sure I have ever felt after reading a book. But Verity had this way of trapping every ounce of my brain as I was reading. I completely forgot about the world around me as I got lost in the mystery and suspense of this novel. I felt as if I had become these characters, but I could no longer trust even myself. Because everything I thought I knew about this story would always come back to prove me wrong. As someone who absolutely loves the suspense/thriller genre, I can tell you that Colleen Hoover did an amazing job writing Verity. She may be a romance author, but she proved with this novel that she can write any genre and make it great. Because Verity still had that awesome CoHo style that we all know and love. It still had Colleen's amazing fluid writing style with her unique and enticing storyline. It's just that Verity happened to be a little more (or rather, a lot more) dark and twisted than her other novels. So don't be afraid to give Verity a chance. It may not be your typical Colleen Hoover book, but it is just as amazing as her other novels. Just be prepared to spend your entire day (or night) reading this book, because if there is one thing I can promise you, it's that you will not want to put it down.Disturbing and unsettling Well, well, well... Mrs. Hoover is taking a dive into the dark side. I cannot say I am disappointed. If you follow my reviews, you know I prefer the dark and twisted books. They are my happy place.I had no clue what this book was about when I started it. I rarely read a book's synopsis, but I never read them for Hoover's books. Judging by the cover, I assumed it was going to be a darker story, I just didn't have a clue of what I was getting into. This haunting, disturbing tale left me feeling bereft. Of what, I am not sure. I just felt unsettled. A little unsure of my own sanity. And maybe a little unsettled over Hoover's sanity too. This book is not a typical book for Colleen. The characters and their actions are nothing like she has written before. For her to have switched gears in such a dramatic way, and yet still get inside these characters heads in such a realistic way shows just how talented of a writer she is. Not that we didn't already know that. This book just further proves it.I always say not every book is for every person. Not all of Colleen's books have been for me. However, this one definitely was. And it may not be one for everyone who is a devoted fan of hers. Just know that there is not one bit of unicorns or rainbows in this book.

This book is great I followed most except the alter because I just ... This book is great I followed most except the alter because I just don't believe in that. I did the journey with a friend and for the last four years, I have enjoyed following the teaching I learned in heal thyself and sacred woman journey. Life no longer passes or controls me but I live and control my life, destiny, health and wombS.A.AFinding the time to work in this book w/small children.... So happy I found the paperback, I purchased the Kindle version a year agi but it's so much better to have a copy in my hands. Let the healing begin. (Again.)So here's what happened. I started the journey in gate one and from my experience it is extremely transformative. Things began to be revealed to me about myself which is truly amazing. I started in gate 0 and technically I'm still there. Not sure if this is ok but this is where I am.Anyways, I was really slow to begin the process because there were items I needed to collect and additional time to find for myself. I have two small children and I'm building my business so finding the time and energy to do things is difficult however the time I did have I used. My sacred baths we're at night or anytime I could manage. I did things to work within my schedule because I needed the healing. It's a challenge for time but whatever time I make for myself I'm always thinking, "I should have done this sooner." This healing book reminds me to care for myself when things get busy. It may take me longer to complete this, with my current responsibilities. So anyone out there wondering where the time is or you have small children and a career to manage, just do what you can when you can, it's ok. I purchased the paperback to remind me to keep going. I started started gate one but I wasn't quite ready yet. I feel the need to continue in gate 0. Anyways so far this book has been really helpful and life changing for me even the little I have read. (I skim thru the chapters from time to time for information)Also, I don't sense that staying in a gate too long is problematic but if anyone out there knows it's a hazard let me know.Hopefully this helps someone. If you want to get in tune with self get this book. Are you on a search to finding who you are and the full capabilities of your self then this is the book for you. It forces you to deal with a lot of inner issues and work on resolving them. It also helps get your way of eating together. It is an overall transformation of mind, body and soul. I absolutely love this book and the wisdom offered inside of it.
