Title: The New Rules of War Pdf Victory in the Age of Durable Disorder

"Stunning. Sean McFate is a new Sun Tzu."

-Admiral James Stavridis (retired), former Supreme Allied Commander at NATO

Some of the principles of warfare are ancient, others are new, but all described in The New Rules of War will permanently shape war now and in the future. By following them Sean McFate argues, we can prevail. But if we do not, terrorists, rogue states, and others who do not fight conventionally will succeed—and rule the world.

The New Rules of War is an urgent, fascinating exploration of war—past, present and future—and what we must do if we want to win today from an 82nd Airborne veteran, former private military contractor, and professor of war studies at the National Defense University.

War is timeless. Some things change—weapons, tactics, technology, leadership, objectives—but our desire to go into battle does not. We are living in the age of Durable Disorder—a period of unrest created by numerous factors: China’s rise, Russia’s resurgence, America’s retreat, global terrorism, international criminal empires, climate change, dwindling natural resources, and bloody civil wars. Sean McFate has been on the front lines of deep state conflicts and has studied and taught the history and practice of war. He’s seen firsthand the horrors of battle and understands the depth and complexity of the current global military situation.

This devastating turmoil has given rise to difficult questions. What is the future of war? How can we survive? If Americans are drawn into major armed conflict, can we win? McFate calls upon the legends of military study Carl von Clausewitz, Sun Tzu, and others, as well as his own experience, and carefully constructs the new rules for the future of military engagement, the ways we can fight and win in an age of entropy: one where corporations, mercenaries, and rogue states have more power and ‘nation states’ have less. With examples from the Roman conquest, World War II, Vietnam, Afghanistan and others, he tackles the differences between conventional and future war, the danger in believing that technology will save us, the genuine leverage of psychological and ‘shadow’ warfare, and much more. McFate’s new rules distill the essence of war today, describing what it is in the real world, not what we believe or wish it to be.

Outstanding Unbiased outside the box perspectiveGeorge Kennan + jump wings = Sean McFate As a former State Department Foreign Service Officer and a retired CIA Operations Officer, I have to say that this is the book I've been waiting for to bridge the gap between strategic theory and practice. Dr. McFate has walked the walk - from his time as an officer in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division to working as a private military contractor, to his studies at Harvard's Kennedy School and beyond - Dr. McFate understands the changing nature of the global security landscape because he's studied it and fought on it. He points out the issues with large standing military forces and why, despite their great power, they are seldom used to win the conflicts in which most nations are currently engaged. He explains the most likely future of conflict - warfare in the shadows fought across non-traditional battle spaces, using (ideally) all levers of national power. He discusses the return of mercenary forces, and how non-state actors should be dealt with by international powers that have often been stymied by them. While studying national security strategy at Georgetown and National Defense University, I always gravitated to classes taught by professors who had experience both in global security theory and the real world: be it military, diplomacy, espionage, or high level policy-making. Dr. McFate covers all of these areas and more in his latest book. "The New Rules of War", should be on every international security practitioner's bookshelf.

Empowerment Series Pdf

Title: Empowerment Series Pdf Direct Social Work Practice
Author: Dean H. Hepworth
Published Date: 2016-04-01
Page: 704

"This is the most comprehensive and detailed practice book on the market!""This is the most comprehensive text we have found that does both the interviewing process, skills sets, and family and group work. It makes a great deal of sense to keep it as our major text." Highly respected social work educators, Dean H. Hepworth and Jo Ann Larsen originally defined how direct practice should be taught.

NOTE: This book is a standalone book and will not include any access codes. Considered the classic source in its field, DIRECT SOCIAL WORK PRACTICE: THEORY AND SKILLS prepares you for effective real-world practice. Packed with case examples, illustrations, and proven learning experiences from the authors and other social work practitioners, the book integrates the major theories and skills that direct social work practitioners need to understand and master. Part of the Brooks/Cole Empowerment Series, the tenth edition is completely up to date and thoroughly integrates the core competencies and recommended practice behaviors outlined in the 2015 Educational Policy and Accreditation Standards (EPAS) set by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

Pretty beat up for New The book looked fairly beat up, corners were bent, cover was dirty and messed up and there was garbage in the envelope with the book. Not impressed for a $137!Purchased ebook: Rated TRASH Back to school...New MSW student taking a generalist course.Only read chapters one and two so far.Book is extremely frustrating to read. If you must get this book: rent it, don’t buy it. You will not use this book later in your career. Learn from my mistake and save yourself $90.Authors know that this is a beginner course, yet they continuously reference things and provide the newbie reader with absolutely zero context. "Ok, this person said that...so what? Who the heck is this person and why should I trust him?" It would be helpful if authors did break outs or provided footnotes to historical references or people. Also, as a generalist textbook, would be helpful if authors defined the concepts they reference. A lot of times, it's like, "cars take people to the doctor." ...Ok, so what the heck is a car? Other times, they define a theory, compare it to another theory, yet omit parts of other theory. "John has two hands. Patrick has two feet." ...Ok, so does john have two feet? Does Patrick have any hands? Does Patrick have three hands? Who knows...So far, no supplemental material is referenced: no hyperlinksHopefully, authors/publisher will improve the 11th edition...you read that right, ELEVENTH!!! This 10th edition is very weak and is published to rob me. Social justice hypocrites. If you, like me, need to read this book for class, I suggest you supplement readings with pitchers of wine. Will update review if later chapters improve...Great text but there is more when you buy it from the publisher This book is clear, interesting, and detailed. It is thorough and my only regret is that I rented it rather than buying it. Also, I've learned that if you buy it from the publisher Cengage, you can access videos and extra content you can't access wen you buy it on Amazon
